Guides for walking, cycling, bus and accessible tours in Toronto, Canada
Tourcycle was founded in 2008 by Allan Stokell. Allan had spent several years in Europe observing the bicycle scene and was influenced by the number of bicycle tours in European cities. On his return to Canada he founded Free Bike Tours based on the model in London, Munich and Paris. Although the tour was free the bike rental and gratuity was extra. After organising tours for the Toronto Outdoor Club he founded tourcycle, a bicycle tour company offering local and international tours.
In 2010, the City of Toronto introduced BIXI, (now Bike Share) a municipally owned bike rental system. This meant tourcycle was no longer required to rent bikes as a bicycle was available to everyone at a reasonable price in hundreds of locations in the downtown area.
In 2011 tourcycle started to include walking and accessible tours. The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (OADA) requires all businesses operating in Ontario to develop accessibility policies.
Since then the demand for private tours has increased so now tourcycle offers tours for everyone, walkers, rollers, cyclists and bus tour operators requiring a local guide.
